The Power of Practice

We are largely the sum of our habits. Thoughts, feelings and actions we repeat over time carve pathways that then create who we are, how we respond and where we will limit ourselves or not.

It is fair to say when one wants to learn to speak a new language that most people would expect you to go take lessons, then PRACTICE it over a period of time to become even just proficient. If you wanted to run a marathon, then you may need to PRACTICE longer distance running over a period of time to build the stamina required to compete or even finish a marathon.

Then WHY is it that when people want to/need to develop patience, kindness, clarity, courage, self-compassion, connection, acceptance, self-love and more: that one is quite often expected to have the proficiency already in place (like they were born with it in full operation) to just be able to shift gears, and flick the switch.

Were such notable qualities of the human repertoire a part of your school curriculum? Did you parents teach you a quality that you are needing today? There are large undertones, especially in the general modern construct that increasingly demand that success is a more valuable goal than self-love. Getting it right/perfectionism rather than making mistakes seems is more favourably looked upon. Striving towards recognition externally more talked of than the lack of awareness of how one is feeling.

Do we ask our friends, family, children, or even ourselves “what are you scared of today?” and “what lights you up about the day ahead?”. This conversation is not regularly at the table. Once we discuss with a close and loving person what we are scared of, it automatically has less power. When we discuss what lights us up, we are more likely to bring more of it into our lives.

From our children, to ourselves, from our friends to our family I believe we must change the conversations. Bring more enquiry and acceptance to our moments. Be so OK if someone close to us really messes up. Be so OK if YOU really mess up. From this loving space, we can always start again. From this loving space, we can cultivate the wiliness to PRACTICE what we are missing or in need of. Ask yourself right now “what do I need more of?”. Grace, elegance, focus, motivation, trust, positive mindset, hope, faith, presence and more come through PRACTICE. You learn to swim by swimming. You learn trust by trusting. We invite more of what we need and want into our lives when we action it, PRACTICE it.

So, I invite us all to let go of needing to be right, instead PRACTICE what you want more of. Be so happy about making learnings (aka mistakes). If you say or do something you realise was not what you wanted to say or do, just undo it. Go back and do a "DO OVER" of the whole thing. Your totally allowed too!!

See every day as a PRACTICE PLAYGROUND and PRACTICE what you want to be more of. If you fall off, pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start again.

Now I would LOVE to hear from you: “what are you scared of today?” and “what lights you up about the day ahead or the week/month ahead?”. Be brave, you are not alone. Your honesty is like a light that shines to help others authentic light shine. PRACTICE now.

Share with me in the comments below. I love hearing from you. And remember, your comment might be the one thing someone needs to hear today.

Wishing you an amazing day.

Sending you all LOVE and LIGHT

Anastasia
